Hi, I'm building a house and am getting bids from three kitchen
designers for cabinets. We would like simple Shaker-style cabinets,
without any fancy glazing, etc. As far as cabinet lines, my options
are all over the place, price-wise. They include: KraftMaid,
Legacy-Bertch, Bertch custom, Shiloh, and hand-made Amish. I am
totally confused as to quality differences and what are the
differences between custom and semi-custom.
Would I notice the quality difference in day-to-day usage? Is it worth
blowing my allowance for custom? What are some of the features I
should be looking for in a good-quality cabinet? Any comments on the
vendors I mentioned above?
Thanks so much. I am clueless!

The three kitchen designers should be glad to point out the differences,
along with answering _all_ your questions pertaining to cabinets. Try
asking them.

Thanks for the advice, Ned, but they each distribute different
cabinets. So it's hard for me to garner an objective opinion about the
entire range of choices. I do have specs for each brand, but I do not
know which features would be most important to evaluate other than the
obvious--price and appearance.

Lara,
We just received our cherry shaker-style cabinets from Kraftmaid. We
were very pleased. We havent installed them yet though. They are
natural finish, no glaze or stain. I have some pictures if you would
like to see.
I have also seen pictures the Legacy cabinets online. They are from a
PA company, right? Anyways, those look gorgeous too!
