Subject: Cracked furnance heat exchangers -- no one cares, possible
health hazard
Hi Group,
I wanted to get opinions on my situation.
About 1-2 months ago I got a letter from Dick's Heating about a
safety issue
in my gas furnance. Naturally I ignored the letter.
A couple of days ago my office neighbor mentioned that they had a
tech
from Dick's heating come out and look at their gas furnance.
The tech said they have found a *large* percentage of cracked heat
exchangers in certain models of Carrier, Bryant, and Payne gas
heaters. They
said this could result in a leak of CO into the household.
The tech also said that the manufacturer will not issue a recall
but has supplied free parts to people like Dick's. Installation cost
as much as $600.
Ok, so I wonder if this is a scam (Dick's is suppose to be really
good,
but times are tough, right?) or what.
Doesn't the manufacturer take any responsibility here? Is this
worthy of exploring a class action suit?
