It has started.  Caught a blurb on the news last night that some
producers are decreasign the amount of product in the package.
Specifically mentioned was cereal putting an ounce or two less per box
but keeping the same size box.  Nothing new, that has been going on as
long as I can recall.  Still seems dishonest to me though.

Another trick back when was when paper towels went from about a square
sheet to a rectangular one.  Decreased the number of sheets per roll
and thus caused buyers to buy more rolls.

IIANM all grocery stores has to post the per ounce price.  The few
stores I shop at do anyhow.  Been comparison shopping that way for
years.

Right. I have never seen a grocery store not include price per ounce
information for its products.

Wrong.  The stores in my area (Calif) use a price per unit.  This is
not meant to be nitpicking as it can make price comparisons a little
more difficult.  I have seen cases where one brand is shown as price
per ounce and the next brand on the shelf is price per pound.  When
the items are fairly closely priced and include fractional cents it
is a little difficult to calculate the differences in one's head.

Nothing new. As you said, companies have been doing those sorts of
things for many years. It must have been a slow news day.
