I have a two year old Sears refrigerator with a freezer compartment on
the bottom. In the past couple of weeks the magnets holding the
freezer door closed are not longer effective; every time the
refrigerator door above it is shut the freezer swings open.
What are some possible causes of this? Is there an easy fix? I'd
rather not pay for a repairman to come to the house if it's a simple
problem.
TIA.

You will likely find some screws or other sort of leveling adjustment at
the bottom (usually bottom front) of the unit. Ajust so that the front
is a bit higher than the rear. That will keep it closed. Warning:
This will tend to make the door close itself unless opened wide.
The magnets are probably in the rubber seal that is around the door. A
set of seals is fairly cheap from sears and are fairly easy to replace.
Its likely you need a set for the freezer or both compartments.

Don't assume it is the magnets.
Check your leveling. Check for obstructions from goods in the
compartment or gunk around the gasket. Either may be preventing the
door from swinging shut all the way so the mag can't get as good a
"grip". Or has the gasket gotten stiff so that, same effect.
It would be odd for magnets like that to "wear out".
