I really like Bissell products, their deeper cleaners are great but
.....
Something that really, really irks me is their "BISSELL Message Board
Discussion". They will edit out ANY comment about another product,
even on how it compares. They will edit out anything that has the
slightest inkling of being not positive for Bissell. I once asked on
what the expected life is of one of their Deep Cleaners, but most of
the post was about how wonderful they are. They did not e-mail me to
tell me it was not going to be posted, they just didn't post it. Then
when I wrote to customer service at
http://bissell.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/bissell.cfg/php/enduser/ask.php?p_sid=GCioKgvg&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9ncmlkc29ydD0mcF9yb3dfY250PTI4NiZwX3BhZ2U9MQ **&p_li=
I asked who the moderator was and why was my post denied, I received
no reply. Usually their customer service is great.
This is all they say about their policy:
Messages posted will be reviewed by a BISSELL Moderator. The Moderator
reserves the right to remove or alter any message posted to a BISSELL
Chat Room or Messageboard.
Don't curse.
Be respectful.
Have fun.
Well I didn't do any of that and I think to edit out posts that are
NOT imflamatory in any way and leave the impression that every person
to ever purchase a Bissell LOVES it, is unethical, misleading and
infuriating.
What is your opinion.

I wouldn't like it either. It once happened to me too on another
moderated board years ago. I see little you can do other than to
leave it.
May be better to ask on a consumer newsgroup like this one for example
to get more exposure and no / less moderating. Of course you may get
a flame once in a while but that goes with the territory on a public
newsgroup. Also you may do a google search or the like and see if your
question or related material is available on the net from the past /
present.

Well, DUH! What were you expecting?

Your naivete is charming, but it's completely unrealistic to expect that a
corporation might subsidize the publication of comments that are adverse to
its own financial interests. OF COURSE it's misleading: they want you to buy
their products, and they're not about to say anything bad about their own
products or anything good about the competition. Why would you expect
otherwise? If you want unbiased opinions, find an independent forum (e.g.
newsgroups, consumer group websites, etc) where the publisher has no financial
stake in the content.

My opinion is that they have every right to not allow random
people to use their message boards as forums for complaints
and/or free advertising for competitors.
Would you consider it "unethical" if your local supermarket
threw out someone who was standing in their doorway, telling
incoming customers "This supermarket sucks. You should go to
Wegmans. It's MUCH better!"
Good lord, some people will complain about anything. Not to
mention that if someone is stupid enough to think that a
manufacturer-run website is supposed to be unbiased, they're
not going to have much luck surviving in a capitalistic
society for very long.

Any forum with a moderator is, by definition, a forum that is subject to
censorship. You can complain all you want, but in the end, you are stuck
with the moderator's view of "acceptable" posts.
If you don't want your opinions censored, then stick to unmoderated
newsgroups (like this one).
