My friend sent me an email last night, in a panic, because
her personal information was listed on a new search site.

I looked, and my name, address, phone #, DOB, was also listed!

I have always maintained an unlisted phone number and avoid
allowing my name on public documents. How does personal
information get divulged? Voter registration .... or do
our trusted utility companies (like Verizon) sell our
personal information? You may want to check and see if
you are listed, too. I think you may be surprised. Good
luck. Hope you can't find your information.

Search site at:

How much do they pay you to spam the newsgroups shilling for their

All sorts of public records are just that -- public.  It's part of
what's supposed to protect us from secret courts and government
conspiracies -- open records and public scrutiny.

For example, if you've bought or sold real estate, your warranty deed
is typically a public record.  Business license information is often
public.

What really amazes me is how many people are surprised that this sort
of information is available  It's not like identity theft and credit
fraud are unheard of, or all these agencies just now started keeping
records.  This is all very old news.

Privacy is good, but don't rely on security through obscurity.  Check
your credit reports at least once a year to see whether anyone has
been misusing your information, and immediately pursue any
inaccuracies or unknown accounts.
