Apologies if wrong newsgroup.

I'm moving into a new flat in a couple of weeks, its a 2 bedroom top floor,
and its brand new.

It has dark/navy blue carpet throughout and wall are like a cream colour -
painted, presumably since its a rented property the landlord wants to make
them last as long as possible.

Anyways the living room is bare and I'm looking at getting a sofa. The
catalogue store is doing a great promotion at the moment on leather sofa
suite (buy a 3 seater and get a 2 seater free, a tight squeeze I thought for
a small flat, but measurement wise it should work okay). I have no kids and
I'm single if that's any help.

I'm stuck on the colour, black or cream? Both same price, both same style.
It seems to be 50/50 at the moment. I've had two females tell me that black
won't go with navy carpet, and another saying black shows dust and dirt more
than any colour. All the lads are saying that black goes with anything and
it will last longer.

Any more opinions?

Thanks!

Consider yourself well-informed; only very recently was I told that
black doesn't go with navy. Women seem to be universally enlighted with
this wisdom, the source of which must remain unknown to us.

It all comes down to who you want to impress. Hint: the lads don't
really give a damn.

Oh, and it's not what you asked, but if you think the room is too small
for a sofa and a love seat, you're right. A sofa and a leather club
chair (or two?) would be way better. And you'll have room for a bigger
TV.

I just pulled up this post (so to speak, nudge nudge) to warn you off
buying teal or navy or some other awful color.  Personally I prefer
earth tones but do agree black/navy is a bit much on the dark side
-unless- you play it up and the rest of the pad is funky along with it.
I ilke the style of the furniture.

Ditto on the furniture size making the room crowded but if it's a good
deal, and you don't plan on living there forever, what the hey.

Agreed, and really, a nice beige is hard to go wrong with in leather.

Here's a vote for black.  I've had a black leather sofa and side chair for
years and love the contrast between the leather and the white walls of the
room.  Black does go with many colors, so I find that a bit of bright accent
with a throw or pillows against the black enhances the contrast.

Black does not show the dirt and it's easier to clean off a stain (spilled
wine, say) from black leather than any other color.
