Seeking recommendations and warnings about full service moving
companies for move from Santa Ana, California to Shelton, Washington.
Qualitiy, price, short notice moves and/or storage to adjust for the
matters associated with such moves, overall satisfaction or
dissatisfaction.  Any info related to the subject welcome.  This will
be an apartment to house move.  Notice to landlord not given yet,
closing 9:00 p.m. January 18th.  Cat transportation (by ground) and/or
car transportation not worked out yet and will need to be coordinated.
2 adult cats, 2 adult humans involved.

Would prefer to ship cars and cats and take train up to Washington if
possible.  Considering renting a panel truck to drive cats and a bit
of stuff in while using full service mover for bulk of things and
shipping cars; biggest obstacle here is that neither I nor anyone in
her family thinks my GF should make this long drive but she considers
herself the world's best qualified person to drive the cats plus
neither of us wants to drive with the other as passenger or be
passenger with the other driving

Experience based info on moving companies and other info especially
welcome.

Cheers,

BEH.

Assuming you don't have a storage unit or two full of stuff that needs to go
along with your apartment things, you really ought to think about renting a
truck and doing the move yourself. You'll save lots of money and be able to take
the cats. If you have two vehicles, one can be towed behind the truck and the
other driven by your partner.

Otherwise, you are at the mercy of the moving company. You won't fill a moving
van, so you stuff will likely be palletized and combined with other households.

A groups.google.com search will reveal many previous discusions on this topic.

Also note, that the hardest part of the actual move is often
loading/unloading, for which you can hire 2-3 "muscle men" at
each end. This will still be a lot cheaper then hiring a moving
company.

If I do need to go that route I'll keep this in mind.  Circular life
motion; I used to get temp agency loading dock assignments to load and
unload trucks for  truckers who didn't want to do that part of their
job themselves.  :-)  I think it was money well spent on their part.

Happy New Year,

We have thought about doing the move ourselves but all things
considered it doesn't seem a good idea for us.  Appreciate the
suggestion though.

Doh!  I didn't even think of that.  Good suggestion.  Any recommended
search terms to use?  I don't seem to thinking at par lately.  <g>

Thanks and Happy New Year,

BEH
