We have a 16 by 30 foot deck in our back, level with our door so you can
walk right out.
I know its hard to make a guess without knowing details, but we need advice
on where to put stairs.

The deck is a rectangle shaep that is one level.  If you walk out onto deck,
the right and left sides are the short sides, and the longer side runs
parallel along house if that makes sense.  We are putting one stairs on the
right side (short side), but not sure where to put other stairs.

What do people do usually, do they maximize space by keeping stairs off to
the side?  What do you think?  Should we put on left side, or along long
side somehwere out of the way.  nothing on left side except exit to a gate,
more stuff on the right.

that is my little drawing, I hope it came thru ok, :)

Thanks

A 16x30 (480 sq ft) deck is pretty big, so maximizing space would not
be a priority in my mind. Traffic flow is the most important
consideration. You don't want people walking back and forth past a hot
grill or hammock, for example. Plan the flow of people and design the
stairs accordingly.

It might help to lay out the plan on some 1/4" graph paper and make
cut-outs for your furniture. You can shift things around and see where
the best flow develops.

My 2 cents.

Do you even need a second set? If so, put them wherever they a most
convenient for your travels and don't forget to look into the future you may
someday want to add a pool. If the gate to the left is used for an exit you
should probably put the stairs there.
