Gee, what a stupid comment. Since a large fraction of everything from
the finest electronic products in the world to the cheapest crap are
made in China, you can deduce absolutely nothing of interest from those
lamps being made in China.

Actually, there has been a consistent string of recalls on products
made in China coming from the CPSC lately. I don't know how you might
prove that they also make the 'finest electronic products in the
world', but you could certainly present a circumstantial case for the
opposite.

Indeed, IBM's laptop computers is now an entirely Chinese company
since they offer consistent high quality,
but a /lot/ of dangerous electronics is getting into the USA.
Stuff without UL or any safety approval.
Stuff that should not have even been manufactured in the first place
due to hazardous and poor construction.
It's easy to find: just look at your local dollar store.
Even the lightbulbs tend to burn out immediately or shatter
(I've experienced that several times).
The attitude used to be "you can't sell stuff until proven safe".
Now we've allowing any and all crap into the market
and it's /assumed/ safe until proven hazardous.
That privilege is being abused. Heavily.
