I don't know if you can doing anything about the way they handled you
because it's one of those "I said they said situations"  usually a no win
situation for everyone except the lawyers.  If it aint in writing it's a
crap shoot.  However this could end up being a learning experience that will
save you thousands of dollars in the future so you may just end up
considering it a tuition fee.

I have spent over 20 years refining my ability to beat business big and
small when they treat me unfairly and I win better than 75% of my battles.

My advise to everyone who asks me how I do it is, don't do business over the
phone and don't complain in person if at all possible.    I use E-mail every
day but when a problem gets real serious I use a fax machine that gives me a
journal print out the sent message or registered mail with a proof of
deliver option.

But before a problems starts and before you get into any busines dealing
with anyone alway get the legal name of the company mailing address fax
numbers etc. so you can start a paper trail that will support you if things
go wrong.   No matter how big a company your dealing with they hate it when
you have a good paper trail.

If you could support what you have said here about the delay because you
couldn't contact them etc. you could probably pressure them in to honouring
their original agreement but without a paper trail it will be an uphill
expensive fight that would probably cost you more than it's worth.

I'll write book one day.
