We have had rust in our water created from a water heater tank of
which has been replaced. How do we remove the rust stained inside our
stainless steel lined dishwasher?
Thanks, Jim

How widespread is the rust stain? There are various stainless steel
cleaners, one of which is Cameo. There are also other products like Zud,
which are also very effective on rust. These are both powders and should
be used on a very wet cloth or sponge with gentle pressure. For the most
part, it's the chemicals and not the abrasives that work on the rust.

Try running a wash cycle with citric acid crystals in the detergent
dispenser. Citric acid will take care of caked-on detergent deposits,
as well as many rust stains.
Summer is a good time to find citric acid in stores, since it's used in
various produce canning processes. If you can't find it labelled as
"citric acid", you might find it as "sour salt".

Sodium hydrosulphate.
There are commercial products for removing rust stains. Put some in and run
a cycle with no detergent and it will usually clear up things like that.

Up here the stuff called CLR removes mineral deposits, lime and rust stains
from stainless steel tubs, porcelain skinks, coffee pots etc...available
in most hardware stores possibly in the cleanig aisle in the supermarket as
well.
