ATTENTION BEST BUY GM'S and CONSUMERS: WHY I NO LONGER SHOP AT BEST
BUY.
Well, it is indeed a sad day for me. I am one of Best Buy's LAST
dedicated consumers and today I have decided (this was not easy at
all, trust me) to no longer shop at Best Buy. Not just my local Best
Buy, but ALL Best Buy's.
I was willing to put up with the long check out lines (like at Best
Buy), I will put up with the cluttered isles (like at Best Buy), I
will put up with the forever long rebates to arrive back in my hands
(like at Best Buy). What I WILL NOT put up with is their new extremely
annoying way of trying to reduce "shrinkage" in their store. I'm sure
you have heard it, you may not have known what it is or why it is even
happening, but it appears they have implemented it in all their
stores.
It seems that Best Buy has introduced a new procedure for their
employee's to follow. It is to randomly RING A LOUD COW BELL, or SOUND
A LOUD HORN, or similar LOUD annoying sound to "scare" people into not
breaking the law (shoplifting).
I'm sure that Best Buy has not consulted their legal department on
this, because anyone with a half a brain would know you should measure
the decibel's of these items being used in an enclosed area (hint:
OSHA) with employee's and customers so close.
I was going to purchase a Maytag Neptune Washer and Dryer today for
almost $2000 for the both of them, but after hearing the bell go off
in my local Best Buy, I turned to the young lady working that
department and told her I can't stand the loud noises while I fill out
the paperwork for my $2000 purchase and I walked out (went to the
Great Indoors across the street and made my purchase, it was worth
$150 more to keep my hearing and my sanity).
While I'm sure "shrinkage" is a problem, may I suggest the following
solutions:
1. Have your employees walk around with street clothes (Target
does this, works great).
2. Install camera's
3. And of course the most logical suggestion, LOCK UP THE SMALL
STUFF and have an employee ready to get it for the customer.
Punishing loyal, law abiding and long standing customers is no way to
treat your customers (By the way, I am also a Best Buy Stock holder,
soon to be a ex-stock holder)
Best Buy's that USED to receive my hard earned cash:
Yorba Linda, Chino Hills, Industry, Ontario, Fontana, Costa Mesa,
Fullerton.
These are the one's I always shop at; there are a few in the outlying
area such as San Diego that will suffer too.
Good bye and Good Luck (Until a PUBLIC apology is printed in my local
newspapers for ALL to see).
Maybe my best buy's really are at Fry's!

Hmm... I've been in about 10 BB stores, seldom heard their door alarm go off
and when I have heard it, it's not very loud. Do you wear hearing aids?
BTW- It's a little more "high tech" then a "random cow bell".
But perhaps in your campaign you could also ask that they also dim their
overhead lights. They hurt my eyes when I'm trying to spend huge amounts of
money.
Sounds like you already solved your problem though... pay more some place
else. Wanna know _why_ that other place is more expensive..?
"Shrinkage" :)

Is this for real, or a troll? I spent well over an hour in a Best Buy a few
days ago. I didn't hear any random loud noise. If I'd been a shoplifter,
I'd have been in and out of there in a few minutes. So even if I HAD heard
a loud noise while I was there, it likely wouldn't have deterred shoplifting
activity unless the random loud noise was sounded like every 60 seconds at
least. -Dave

What took you so long to come to your senses?

I never heard that - I guess I quit shopping there before this
wonderful innovation.
The loud noises that convinced me to stop shopping there were the
moronic clerks who keep flapping their gums about those asinine
extended service plans (which are reall extended PROFIT plans for Best
Buy). The straw that broke the proverbial camel's back was the
checkout clerk who kept pushing the ESP even after I'd said "no" three
times.

I'm still shopping at Best Buy, but it wouldn't take much more to convince
me to stop. Their latest trick that *I* observed is that with any purchase,
they offer you a trial subscription to a bunch of useless magazines. They
insist the subscription is free, and most consumers know by now that free
things are VERY expensive. Oh, this is after pushing the extended profit
plan several times. It is a new marketing ploy, and I'm not too crazy about
it. -Dave
