Are they now permanently orange, or did they become orange briefly while
you were boiling the water?

Sodium compounds (such as regular salt -- sodium chloride) impart an
orange color to a flame.

Natural gas burns a blue-ish color when combustion is efficient.  If the
natural gas is not burning as efficiently as possible, it will display other
colors.  This is a desired effect in natural gas fireplaces.  (Who wants a
fireplace with a blue flame?)  Who knows what is causing the orange flame,
but it's nothing to be concerned about.  If it's still orange in May, I'd
call the gas company.  (it's possible the extreme cold weather has something
to do with this)  -Dave

Have you started to use an ultrasonic humidifier in the house?  That can
disperse fine mineral dust into the air if you're using tap water, and this
mineral dust can harmlessly color gas flames.
