Seems like this would be the cat's meow in terms of adjustablility and
comfort combined. Or are the adjustable air beds comfortable enough
that it's not worth the engineering (pumps, valves, and manifolding)
and reliability (risk of leaking) hassles of making the waterbed
adjustable?

The sleep number beds are extremely comfortable.
