has anyone replaced all there light with led? at 50.00 to 100.00 a bulb
would ever pay for itself? My house has all cfl and 32watt t8s My power
bill is about 65.00 a month.

Big questions re these energy saving bulbs.

I.E What time of year do you use most lighting! Winter? And you need
Heat in winter? The old bulbs gave off Heat so you got an input of
heat in addition to the light? Main selling point for energy saving
bulbs--the do not give off heat?? Anyone ever calculated the- savings-
taking the above into the equation?

Is the heat gain from incandescent lighting equal to the energy savings
from CFLs or LEDs?  Ie, is the sole efficiency less heat?  My guess is that
basic physics says yes, but IANA physicist.

I'd also question whether the heat gain results in meaningful reductions in
fuel usage for heating, especially for ceiling cans which can pretty easily
dump a lot of their heat into uninsulated spaces.

I'd also question the assumption as to when you use the most lighting --
seasonally, yes, winter makes sense since there are more dark hours, but I
think the correct answer is "night" and most people are gone during
daylight hours.

My personal experience is that there's a baseline level of lighting more or
less "required" to make interior spaces usable after about 7 PM or so.
Shade trees, steep angles of afternoon lighting and deep shadows can make
even long northern summer daylight less than usable for interior task lighting.

I personally wonder when we'll see Luxeon bulbs.  They've hit the discount
store flashlights and perform great; a 1W compact model I picked up
outshines an older 6-D mag lite.

You can get LED replacement bulbs for older maglites BTW.

I use roughly the same amount of lighting year-round.  In the summer
the air conditioning is on and the drapes are closed to reduce
insolation.
Even in spring and fall, the windows in my house are not placed to
provide sufficient light for reading or working in the house.
