The subject says it all. I have a fisher and payekl smartdrive 5.5 top
loader thingo. I lost the lid when i picked it up from where I bought
it from and the lid blew off when i delivered home.

So! I have tried everything - there is literally no hole where the lid
closes that forces a switch... ive tried magnets, thinking it may be
some kind of magnetic mechanism, but still no luck. Any other ideas?
Maybe my magnet isn't strong enough, but hard disk magnets are pretty
strong!

Running a wash machine with no lid is going to be both dangerous
and messy.  How about calling the dealer or the manufacture and
ordering a new lid?  Barring that, you likely will have to open it
up and find where the interconnect is.  Any chance that there is
a schematic in the manual?

Hmmm there is no manual with it as I bought it second hand. I know
you're all probably thinking that I stole it, you can think what you
like.

How much will a new lid cost roughly? Regarding the dangerous part, I
do have something to cover it, I will get a new lid but I can't at the
moment. And I desperately need to do washing!

Anyway, I think the problem is that it needs to have clothes in it -
it may have a load balance sensor, because when i moved it around, it
started to work for a little while.

Will try putting some clothes in it and see what happens.

Go to google and try this search:

fisher and paykel washing machine +parts

There are lots of places that sell parts on line.  You can probably find
one and look up the model you have there.  If you are lucky the
manufacturer has a web site and you will be able to get the manual and
such there.
