I'm still looking for a reliable dimmable bulb that has some energy
efficiency. I see that are some cold cathodes out now:

Any experience with these, or any other suggestions?
The last "dimmable" CFL I bought only lasted a week!

LEDs are that in spades. Price can still be a problem tho.

I have two issues with LEDs beyond price. I need a non directional
light, and I need something more like a 75W equivalent. Most all of the
LEDs I've seen so far don't do that. The heat sinks tend to move them
into into floods.
It's just a single fixture I need bulbed up, I'd post a link to it but
it looks IKEA has discontinued. It is spherical though, and needs to be
evenly lit.
I suppose a halogen is my interim solution.
