My microwave went out 2 days ago.  I was going to replace it but a
friend of mine asked me to consider a convection oven that I can use
it for more things.   I am just asking for 'opinions', but I think ,
after searching on line, that I am going to get the convection oven.

This is a FRUGAL group darn it.   I am retired and live on a frugal

Microwaves use a lot less energy for most cooking jobs. I'd get a
combi cooker, can do both. They can also do both at the same time,
which to a first approximation gives you the results of convection
with the speed of nuke.

Not to mention that they are more prevalent and easier to find for
free/cheap.
