I am looking to purchase a car for cash and was thinking of putting
part or all of it on a credit card to take advantage of cash back or
rewards for the credit card.

Can anyone recommend a card that might offer a good amount back or
reward for a large purchase? I would then pay it off immediately.

Thanks.

Car dealers will typically have a maximum they will accept via CC.  They
fully realize they get an additional cost.

You might get them to cover up to about 5K, but not likely much more.

American Express has a card that comes with a high yeild savings account of
4.25%.  Essentially I think 1% of everything you use the card for goes into
this savings account.  Sounds good for small or home business types.

I use a Citibank card that gives me 2% of every purchase towards the
purchase of a new or used car.  They rebate you AFTER you buy the car so the
new or used car dealer has no clue.

Not sure which card you meant but the two I mentioned were Citibank
Mastercard Driver's Edge and the American Express ONE card.

I have the Driver's edge from Citibank.   2% towards the purchase of ANY car
is okay for me.  I run a home based business so I can expense about $6000
dollars a month thru a credit card.  That's about $120 a month I get back
toward the purchase of my next car.  There are better rebates out there but
I know that next summer I will be buying a used car so hopefully I can count
on $1500 from citibank credit card to go towards this.

Citi rebate you after you send the bill of sale for the car.  So the
salesman you negoaite with won't know a thing.....
