I don't want to get into a flame whether a college student should have
a credit card so let's try to avoid this. I've decided for my
daughter's needs it would be best to have one.

Therefore can any one tell me which one is most popular for college
students?  I just want a basic one about $1000.00 each daughter and
don't care if it's secured or unsecured.  I don't care about the
interest rate neither but do care about customer support.  My wife and
I do not want to add them on to our CC and feel it would be best for
each to have their own.  They do have savings and checking accounts so
I'm considering a card from their bank for them meanwhile.

Or is there any good reference sites to read about CC or comparisons
for this situation?

thanks in advance.

Your daughter should be doing this research too. She can find tons of
credit card applications on her school's campus. Also, you two should
check out http://www.bankrate.com  for info.
