Do prices for rental cars go up or down if you wait longer (i.e. closer to the date you are actually renting)?

I need a rental car from Jan 15-22. Should I book it now, or will
prices go up/down if I wait until closer to the time? I know plane
tickets are cheaper if you buy them further in advance. I suppose if I
wait until the last minute, I might be able to get a cheap deal by
making an offer on Priceline.com. Right?
thanks in advance,
John

Yes. The closer to the time you need the rental car, the more it will
cost you if you delay reserving it. Its the same situation with airline
tickets and hotel rooms. I don't know about renting a car on
priceline.com but check there and see what they say.
