I have to use ebay for some difficult to sell items.
I don't want to give these suckers my credit card number.
Is there a way around this? Will prepaid credit card with limit work?

Your credit card company will issue you a time/dollar-limited card number that
you can use.

Some people have told me they don't think a fat penguin really
embodies the grace of Linux, which just tells me they have never seen
an angry penguin charging at them in excess of 100mph. They'd be a
lot more careful about what they say if they had. -- Linus Torvalds

Why don't you use Paypal?

This has worked for me since 2000 (I have no credit cards):
Open a checking account with minimum deposit;
Acquire national-branded debit card linked to that account;
-->DO NOT link that bank account to any other financial institution<--;
"Verify" bank account and card with eBay;
Unfund the checking account;
Open Paypal Account;
Link Paypal Account to bank account.
Thereafter: Sell, sell, sell. Encourage buyers to use Paypal. Sweep
Paypal balance into bank account frequently. Remove cash from checking
account, as you see fit, before the balance accumulates large enough
that you wouldn't want it "frozen" in event of buyer or billing dispute.
Ensure checking account balance is sufficient to pay eBay fees on eBay
collection date (they give plenty of notice).
Alternatively: Simply apply for a low-balance credit card that will
be used only for eBay.
FWIW: I've never had a questionable or disputed transaction through
eBay or Paypal. However, about five years ago Paypal requested that I
change my password because of (what they said was) an attempt at
unauthorized access to my Paypal account.
Warning: eBay and Paypal are primo grist for phisher's and
spoofer's mills. Do not ever, under any circumstances reply directly to
any email regarding the status of your account and purporting to be from
either entity, regardless of its apparent legitimacy. Always, always,
always log on to the legitimate site to transact any business regarding
your account, personal information, etc. If you happen to be one of
those dufii who uses Webmail or accepts mail in HTML, close and restart
your browser or so-called email application before doing so.
