Those cost a lot more than either, even when you include the cost of the
electricity for years.

You pay rather more to the manufacturer and retailler of the comforter.

Well the obvious is that one is over you and one is under you. But you get
a lot more flexibility with the blanket in that you can wrap it around you
and do more "snuggling" into it. The mattress pad is also heating a
certain amount of area which is being unused. So all in all, I'd opt for
the blanket.
