Got any advice on repairing the "regulator" for the driver's side window
of a 93 Sentra?  I took the inside panel off and saw that the regulator
(crank) that raises and lowers the window uses a cable, which broke.

It was easy enough* to get to the problem, how hard is it to make the
repair?

Thanks,
Jm

*PS: Not saying I enjoy doing this in 95° heat, but I need the window
working and can't pay $200 for the repair.

There are usually two fasteners at the top, two at the bottom,
and two holding the window to the carrier that slides up and
down the regulators' track. It helps to have a second person;
you'll probably have to take the glass out to swap the regulator
itself, and be very careful to properly attach the glass correctly
and do _not_ overtighten it. I know that from personal experience.

The new regulator will probably come with some white grease for the
track; it _is_ necessary.

I've worked on Mercury and Mazda regulators; it'll help if you
have small hands. Take your time, especially if there's a spool
with cable wound around it; having that get loose is a headache,
at least on power windows.

A search should turn up more detailed instructions.

regulator

Good information, GH. Thanks for your response.

I've already paid a mechanic too much for what was probably only a
five-minute job.  I do that sometimes, and then I stew awhile before
getting my own tools out. It looks like I might have tackled the whole
thing myself.

Checked it out quickly, but they don't have a manual regulator for a
2-door. Maybe the driver's side 4-door is the same?

As for the rest, I haven't signed up yet.  Thanks, Dave!
