Home made dye for white shoe laces

 My son often throws away shoes that have not had so much wear and the
laces are still fine.  I want to re-use the laces, but they are
invariably white which does not go well with my leather shoes.

Is there a frugal home made dye, black or any dark colour that I could
easily make at home please?  Thanks.
