Hi,

I am considering buying a new digital camera. I know where they can be
bought.

I am completely ignorant about digital cameras. I have an old Cannon
sure shot camera presently, which I rarely use.

It was suggested that I purchase a digital camera by the local film
developing place.
I do not know anything about different brands and what  the  advantage
of having a digital camera versus the film cameras..my only knowledge
is five pixels.

What features do I need to have or should I consider when looking for
in a digital camera?

I wish to spend only about $200.00 for the camera.

Please suggest a low price quality brand and why I should buy this
particular brand..

Kindly reply by posting only as email protected from spam.

Thanks.

Film does seem to be on the way out but it's always going to be
available. Digital cameras advantage is that they are cheaper if
you take lots pictures.

If you rarely take pictures then you're just going to be wasting
your money buying a new camera. Your best bet is to stick with the
one you already have unless you think you'll change your photo
taking habits.

There are plenty of camera buying guides out there in print and on
the net. Try a google search for "digital camera buying guide".

Here are a few randomly selected websites you could start with.

These days you can find many good digital cameras in this price range.

Anthony,

Thanks for your intelligent response to my posting.

There are just too many cameras to choose from out there and I would
like a recommendation from a personal  buying experience, which would
narrow it down to nearly  one specific camera. I only need the camera
for home use.

I recently went through this process in buying a camera as a gift
for a relative. When all was said and done, they preferred the Kodak
cameras because they were easier to learn how to use. They are pigs
for batteries but this isn't an issue for the ordinary "let's snap
a picture of us in front of..." user. Just carry a spare set of AA's
and you'll be covered.

You can get price comparisons at websites like Pricewatch.

A quick search on that site got me Computer Geeks.

Kodak EasyShare C530 5MP 5x Digital Zoom Camera (5 MP)
$80

You will need an SD memory card and will probably want the rechargeable
batteries. You don't need the docking station.

If you are an occasional user, you may want to skip the rechargables.
They will probably be dead when you want them (they die much faster than
alkalines).  Instead, keep two alkaline spares - in the long run, they
will probably not be much more costly than the rechargeables with the
advantage of being ready when you want to use the camera.
