I have STi pre-paid and altho service has been great I
definitely need roaming
What is the next best alternative to STi that has
roaming and is pre-paid?

Tracfone has some phones which include roaming. They
don't make it very clear on their web page, but read
carefully and you'll see some of their phones have it.

I think you'd get a much better response to this query on the
www.howardforums.com under the "prepaid" discussion board.
The folks there helped me out greatly when I was buying a prepaid
earlier this year.
One website they turned me on to was
http://www.cellguru.net/prepaid_compare.htm
But I actually got good answers from the posters that greatly augmented
the cellguru page.

T-Mobile seems to have a pretty good deal on its prepaid service if
you buy the $100/1000min/1 year card. Same rate anywhere in US. YMMV
as far as coverage in your area, though.
