On Sat, 9 Dec 2006 10:19:48 -0500, a day that will live in infamy, Don K
stood on a soapbox and proclaimed:
:Driving thru NY, we stopped for gas and I found a credit card on the
:pavement near the pump.
:
:My wife said to turn it in to the clerk in case the owner comes back,
:but as I was pumping gas, I thought it over and decided not to do that
:because I have no idea how honest the clerk would be.
:
:I decided the best thing to do would be to keep the card and destroy
:it when we got home. Today I found the card in my jacket since I
:had forgotten about it.
:
:So before I snip it, I'm curious what others would have done. I think
:the most important thing was to prevent fraud and not worry about
:returning the actual card to the owner.

Where I work (a parking deck) we had a cashier turn in a forgotten debit
card the other day. I called the number on the back of the card, and
they told me to destroy it as it had been reported missing. I imagine
that they would have taken the info, deactivated the number, told me to
destroy it, and then notified the cardholder if it had not been reported
before then.
