Yes because those tractors used to farm the grain used for ethanol run on
air as do the trucks that carry them to market, as do the power plants that
supply the ethanol processing plants with energy, as does the creation of
fertilizer. Oh that's right, they don't, they use fossil fuels. Oh that's
right they consume more energy in fossil fuels than is produced by the
ethanol fuel. Oh right it's also covered by grotesque subsidies. Oh well, I
guess Big Oil Company / OPEC will be price gouging us in the future.

No they dont when sugar cane is used for the alcohol.

Have fun explaining Brazil.

Guess again.

JoshIII wonders:
So let me get this straight.  Are you saying it cost more to make
a gallon of ethanol than the current price per gallon of ethanol
(which is slightly less than regular unleaded at the pump)?

That doesn't make much business sense!

I love debating guys that "know all the answers"!

You can never change their mind, but it doesn't matter,
no one is going to remember who they were when
reality sets in and future comes to past.  Only one guy
will get it right, and that's the guy the gets it right
by chance alone.  No one is going to remember
him either, because all his other predictions, except one,
are wrong.

I sometimes get the feeling I am the bad guy and the
hated one in this debate,  and Big Oil / OPEC
are the good guys.

I'm not saying ethanol is the *only* answer.  Its one of
the good answers or good alternatives to oil, of which
I am hoping there will be several in the future.

You are correct.  The current agricultural subsidy system does not make
much business sense.
