A friend of mine is a licensed car dealer. I looked up the price of a
used 2007 Civic LX 4 Dr. One was sold through the Manheim auto auctions
here in Southern California recently with 2,488 miles (must have been a
reposession) sold for $15,400.

My friend does take orders for cars and charges a flat fee of $750 to buy
a car. So he would have gotten that used one for you at $16,150. So your
price for new is good.

Many times he gets cars for under wholesale and has amazed the credit
union at the prices he can sell cars for. Depends on how many there are
of a particular car. Manheims auto auction site showed only one 2007
selling.

The website shows for a 2006 with an average of 13k miles selling for an
avg price of $14.6k.

As for the extended warranty. Why buy such a highly rated car and then
have to buy extra insurance against problems? Many years ago I bought a
Honda motorcycle. The dealership started the spiel about getting the
warranty for MY protection. I stated that if I needed an extra warranty
on the product I guess I would just head down the street and buy the
Yamaha I was looking at earlier. Needless to say they quickly closed the
deal WITHOUT the warranty.

In my experience, dealers will close the deal just as quickly if you simply
say "No thank you".
