After being told by both Verizon and Page Plus that it wouldn't work,
naturally I ignored them and followed the advice of folks here that my
Inpulse phone could be activated with Page Plus.  Bought an activation
on ebay for $5.99 and it works!

The activation process is a complete mystery to me.  Does anyone know
the mechanics of it, why it takes 3-4 hours?  And why wouldn't Page
Plus do the activation themselves for free, since you'd be paying them
for time on their network?

I understand PP minutes are good for 120 days.  Do I need to use the
phone every 30 days to keep it active?  Do the minutes roll over?
Their web site ain't very helpful.  Tried to send them email, the form
asks for my Page Plus Number, which apparently is not my phone number,
no idea what that is...

I activated a Verizon phone, so I guess it's using the Verizon
network.  Otherwise, does PP have its own network?  Any differences?

No, they are a reseller of Verizon service.  They also win the award for worst
corporate website, small
company division (most corporate websites win for large company division).

Does PP use the same network, whether I purchase the phone thru them
or purchase a Verizon Inpulse phone and then activate it with PP?  Am
I better off with the Verizon phone?

Yes--they are a reseller of Verizon service.  All of the phones they sell are
Verizon-branded phones.
There is a larger selection of models available on Ebay.  Just search for
"Verizon phone".
But first, research models on a website like mobiledia or phonescoop, for user
reviews.  Also, I
recommend getting a tri mode phone, they are capable of roaming onto analog
networks where there is
not a digital signal.
