Savings on food are sort of my specialty.   I don't know if anyone is
interested in frugal recipes and food tips, but if someone asks, I will
answer if it is something I know.

I just got the official diagnosis of diabetes.   I intellectually know
what to NOT eat, but since all starches turn to sugar, what in the
hell is left?

Robert, you need to go to alt.support.diabetes and to alt.food.diabetic.

If you post, I will officially say I know you and you won't get hassled.
There are some very nice people there, you will find.   I cannot begin to
tell you how helpful they have been.   I am a type 2 diabetic also.

To start out with you need to buy yourself a book, it is called "type 2
diabetes the first year"   It is a very good one.   There are several
others.

Absolutely pay no attention at all to the American Diabetes Association.
Not unless you want to lose legs and have lots of complications, that is.

You will need to test at certain times, and it is usually more often than
the insurance companies want to provide you test strips for.

Keeping your blood glucose numbers in the closest range to "normal"
numbers... (not "good" diabetic numbers) is your goal.   Some can eat more
carbohydrates than others.   Some carbohydrates will spike you more than
others.

Your mileage may vary from some other person's experiences.   That is why we
test, test, test till you know what works out best for you and what doesn't.

FAT!  I thought everybody knew that.  Protein too, of course, but you get
really tired of ONLY bacon and eggs after a while.

Lots of vegetables.   We eat two vegetables with every meal.   Usually fresh
ones.
