I use to buy for .99 cents the 4 package of Marcal Soft Pac toilet
tissue, 1 ply..which was fine. Recently they changed their name to
"Small step" something and now charge for the same size 2.79. That is
some increase...just when the economy is down, these company's raise
their prices.. This is in the nyc area...supermarkets. Does anyone
where one can get tissue at a decent price? I could see it if they
raised it to .50 , but 2.79? No Costco, please...not a member and its
only benefits large families. ..also, can't afford membership price.

Keep an eye on supermarkets for sales, and load up when one has a sale.
Also, I find that Target usually has better prices than supermarkets for
products available at both Target and supermarkets - which includes toilet
paper. However, I find the better supermarket sale prices to be best of
all - load up when you see a good supermarket sale, which may occur as
frequently as close to roughly every month or two. You may need those
supermarket "club cards" to get many of the good sale prices.

As someone who always does this, the price of the toilet paper I use
(Scotts) has gone up from $5.50/12rolls to $6.50/12rolls on sale in the
last year or so. That's an 18% increase over the last year or two.
I buy a lot of bleach because it's the best and cheapest disinfectant.
The cheapest bleach used to be $0.99/gallon. Now the cheapest I can find
is $1.39/gallon. Some stores, like The Home Depot, charge $2.59/gallon to
the unsuspecting customers who don't know what things cost. In my case
that's close to a 40% increase in a couple of years. Sometimes it's the
simplest of staples that give you an indication as to how bad inflation is.
BTW: The generic bleach is just as good as Clorox(tm) bleach. Bleach is
bleach, it's just a chemical.

However, the cheaper brands are generally diluted--always check what
percentage of sodium hypochloride is marked on the label. Saving ten
cents and getting half the concentration isn't a good deal.

Actually, the cheaper bleaches often have a small amount of iron
contamination, which can cause a type of staining. What irritated me
about bleach is how it went from a gallon (128 oz) size to a 96 oz
size and aother small sizes.
In some areas you can still buy chlorine for pools that is 3 to 4
times more concentrated, and can be a much better buy.
