I'm not sure how frugal RVing really is. I priced it out and it
didn't seem to work out all that well. Figuring in initial cost,
increased gas expenditures and maintenance, it would take a lot of
nights at the Hilton to make up for the increased cost.

There is something to be said about tent camping. These are not the
tents of just a few years ago. Some of them are wired for electricity.
Some have built in closets. Many are bigger than RVs. Here is an
example

For around $500 bucks one can outfit one's self pretty nice. Cots and
sleeping bags, portable toilet and shower room and solar heated
shower, camp stove and portable kitchen and cookware, and a electric
heater and maybe a window airconditioner. All this can be had for
around $500 and it will all fit in a sub-compact car. If done right,
camp can be set up in under an hour.
