I use Colgate Total which has triclosan in it.

Now I'm seeing studies that say it could be a bad thing
as it can react with chlorine in the water and make
dioxins.

Any opinions on this?

I can't imagine that it has any benefit, other than to the marketing
drones.  Seems like an unnecessary ingredient.  If you want to
sterilize the inside of your mouth, swishing it out with mouthwash or
vodka almost certainly works better (and you can swallow the vodka
when you're finished!).

I'd guess that (for the environment) it's not as bad as triclosan in
detergents/soaps, because the quantity is probably a lot less.  But it
does seem unnecessary.

Nothing is safe anymore. Alcohol causes oral cancer.

It is worse for frequent drinkers, but even alcohol containing mouthwash
is now implicated.

I think I will just sit here in my nice safe media room, and never leave
its safe confines. Oh wait, the computer monitor is giving me radiation
cancer, and the foam in the seat cushion is out gassing formaldehyde,
giving me leukemia.

Worse yet, I regularly brush, floss, and use mouthwash. I'm doomed.

Isn't dioxin a good teeth whitener?
