What is the experienced position? Are septic tank treatment products like
those of Roebic and others of any value for routine maintenance? What
about the emergency treatment products?

This was covered a few years back. If the bacteria are healthy and
the tank operating properly, they serve no purpose. If the tank is
overloaded with sediment, then only removing the sludge will resolve
the problem. If the drain field is trashed because the tank wasn't
emptied often enough, then only replacing or relocating the drain
field and cleaning the sludge out of the tank will resolve the
problem.
About the only time I can think that treatment products might help is
after an accidental flushing of too much bleach, or excessive use of a
system when relatives descend on you for a month and ignore the basic
rules.
