How frugal do you think the washing machines are that have the heating
element in the bottom of the washer, to use when you need hot water for
the laundry? These were very popular in Germany 25 years ago,  Mary

Since gas is about half the price of electricity and here in America

We love it.  We didn't get it for energy efficiency, though that is a
plus, too.

Since one machine both washes and dries, you don't have to be there
between cycles to load the wet clothes into the dryer and start the
dryer.  I put a load in before heading to work, and I have clean, dry
clothes when I get home.  Put a load in before bed, and I have clean,
dry clothes in the morning.  (Ever have one of those loads that gets
left in the wash too long when you're gone for the weekend, and it
starts to smell?  Never again!)

For those with kids -- the "sanitary" cycle is hot enough to wash
crayons out of clothing, too!

Upcharge wasn't too much, we got a scratch-and-dent.

But are they really efficient?
