I've been using VTISP's 150 hour a month dialup plan for the past 4 years
or so, with no complaints. However, they recently announced that starting
in September, they are going to limit the accounts to 100 hours a month. I
often come close to the 150 hours, and last month I got there about 6 days
early. (and so, no Internet access for the last 6 days of the month) I just
don't think that 100 hours a month is going to be good enough for me.
However, I currently pay only $3.50 a month for my Internet access. So
far, I haven't seen any high speed internet offers that seemed at all
competitive to me. I have seen a few that sounded very fair at first, but
always ended up being "introductory" rates that only last a few months.
I would be willing to pay up to 3X what I currently pay for some form of
faster internet access, or up to 4x for unlimited hours. So up to $10.50 a
month tops for something faster than my 46 kpbs connection, or up to $14 max
for something like that with unlimited hours.
Does anyone know of something competitive like this? If so, I would
appreciate it if you could post some info about it here. Thanks!
(P.S. - not interested in getting cable tv, so just looking at DSL or
wireless type deals)

When the introductory period is over tell them that you're not interested in
paying more and they might as well cancel service. They'll extend the
'introductory' rate. It just means you have to repeat the exercise at the end
of each 'introductory' period.

Good luck.

You don't need to have cable TV to have cable internet service. I get 5mb
cablemodem service (vs your 56k service) for $30/month.

You can get cable internet access without cable TV, you know. Telephone
service is also available. Might want to at least check what packages
are available before dismissing them as options.
