Does anyone know the recommended oil weight/type for a 98 Honda Accord
manual 5 speed?

Took a while of searching, but according to the owner's manual, 5W30 motor
oil is recommended.  This should also be printed on the oil filler cap or
under the hood somewhere.

Keep in mind though that the oil weight listed in the owner's manual isn't
the only weight of oil that is appropriate.  For example, in the official
documentation for the Galant I used to own:
Owner's manual:  5W30
SERVICE manual:   all weights from 5W30 up to 20W50 are recommended,
depending on average outside temperature.  (Higher outside temperature
requires thicker oil)

Note that there are different recommendations in official documentation from
THE MANUFACTURER.  The honda is probably the same.

I'd probably go with 5W30 for the Accord, unless you live in a warm area,
the type of area that never sees snow.  Then I'd probably up to 10W40
year-round, especially if you do a lot of highway driving.

Oh, and don't worry about synthetic or semi-synthetic or anything other than
the cheapest regular type of oil you can find.  More important than type of
oil is how often you change it.  Regardless of manufacturer recommendations,
do NOT go more than 5,000 miles (3,000 preferably) between oil
hanges.  -Dave

This is a 98 vehicle he was asking about.  Most likely, he just bought it
used, and WHAT owner's manual?   :)  -Dave

You can still get something that functions as an owner's manual for
older cars, and shockingly, some people actually store theirs in their
glove boxes where they stay safe and secure even a whole decade or more
later.
