I have a real weakness for really thick plush towels. I need to buy
some - with bed sheets there's the thread count you can check as at
least one measure of the quality. Is there some measure that can help
tell the quality of towels?
Thanks!

Doubt that would be much use as a measure of suitability.
I bought one that drys noticeably poorly. Got another of a different
brand which is the same weight which drys much better. Not at all
clear why the better one drys better, presumably its the cotton used.
